The SCR Characteristics Apparatus is a specialized educational instrument designed to study the operating characteristics of a Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR). Manufactured by Elmo Labs and supplied by Elmo Agencies, a trusted scientific instrument manufacturer in Ambala, this apparatus is widely used in engineering colleges, technical institutes, and electronics laboratories for practical experiments involving power electronics and semiconductor devices.
An SCR is a semiconductor switching device that allows current to flow in one direction and can be controlled using a small gate current. The apparatus enables students to investigate important SCR parameters such as forward voltage drop, latching current, holding current, and switching characteristics. Through practical experimentation, learners gain a clear understanding of how SCRs function in electronic control and power regulation circuits.
The apparatus features an inbuilt variable DC regulated power supply with an output range of 0-30V DC. It is equipped with on-board analog moving coil meters for accurate measurement of voltage and current. The voltmeter offers dual ranges of 0-1.2V and 0-30V, while the ammeter provides ranges of 0-200µA DC and 0-1.2mA/30mA. A 2P4M SCR is incorporated into the setup, allowing students to perform experiments related to anode current versus anode-cathode voltage characteristics as well as gate characteristics under different operating conditions.
Housed in a lightweight and shock-proof plastic cabinet with a bakelite front panel, the apparatus is designed for durability and ease of use. All significant test points are brought to the front panel for convenient access during experimentation. Manufactured with quality components by Elmo Labs and offered by Elmo Agencies, a leading manufacturer in Ambala, the SCR Characteristics Apparatus is an essential laboratory instrument for studying semiconductor devices, power electronics, and SCR applications.
